Hello all!

I hope you all had a good summer! Enjoy the last few weeks, this is going to be a busy and exciting year for all of us, so get ready!

The fall semester begins this year on Wednesday, September 1, and there are several events in the first week you need to be aware of:
Wednesday, September 1st, 4pm, Black Box All DRAM 55 Meeting.
This does not include first-years, but everyone else in 55.

Wednesday, September 1st, 4pm, Black Box Intimations for Saxophone first rehearsal.

Saturday, September 4th, 10a.m.-2p.m. Dempster Dance Studio
Auditions for Fall Dance Concert.

Tuesday, September 7th, 7p.m. Lowe 106 Cabaret first rehearsal.

Wednesday, September 8th, 4pm, Dempster Dance Studio	All Majors Meeting.
Please come to hear important department announcements, meet and greet new and returning faculty and the in-coming first year students. Clubs, please be ready with any announcements you would like to make.

You should also plan to come to the Drama and Dance Department office sometime during that first week of classes to fill out a white departmental registration card (this is separate from registration for your classes). You can also fill these cards out online at poowabah.info. You should fill out a department card each semester that you are at Hofstra. These tell us that you are, indeed, a dance or drama major, and assures that you are assigned an advisor for future class registration. It also provides us important information as to how to reach you on campus by email or telephone. Remember, the Drama and Dance Department office is located in 102 Emily Lowe Hall.

We found a new rehearsal space for you! The former student lounge in the basement of Lowe has been transformed into a changing area (for daytime use) and a drama rehearsal room (after 6p.m.) This will be the place for dance and drama students to change into their dance or movement gear. Students will no longer be allowed to change in the second floor bathrooms or in the studios. Since Jean Giebel is stepping down as Chair of the department, she is moving her office to the second floor. Jean’s office will become the new student lounge, open to all drama and dance students.

Finally, in addition to myself taking over as chair, Rych Curtiss has been promoted to the position of Managing Director of the Drama and Dance Department. This will largely not affect students, but is more of an administration shuffle that will help us to more efficiently produce our season.

Enjoy the end of your break. Looking forward to seeing all of you soon!

David M. Henderson, Chair
Department of Drama and Dance

Thank you, everybody. The quality of your work is very impressive. It shows how much the students in the department have grown in focus, talent and preparation. Because you are not on this list, does not mean I am no longer considering you. Sides are being sent out via the department email that you should read over and prepare for the callbacks

Audition sign up sheets are available in the Drama office for those students in Student Projects who need to sign up for early time slots. See Angela.

The sheets will be posted for general sign up on Thursday.

Those interested in auditioning for CABARET (and all BFAs as they must audition for every show) must sign up for a slot on Wednesday or Thursday and plan to be available for a Dance Call on Friday. Anyone unavailable for Friday must note that clearly on their audition sheets.
Peter is now asking for SAXOPHONE that rather than doing two contrasting one minute monologues, you do ONE one-minute monologue and do that piece two contrasting ways.

From Peter: “I am less interested in your doing funny, serious, character, etc. monologues. It’s not the content I want to see but HOW you do the piece, what physical adjustments you use. Therefore, if you want, you could cut the piece you are doing for AWAKE AND SING down to one minute and do that again two different ways.”

The Cultural Arts Playhouse is auditioning actors, singers, and dancers of all sizes and ethnicities for a new production of the Rocky Horror Show.

Please prepare 16 bars of a Glam Rock or Punk Rock song and be ready to dance. (Seeking strong dancers)

The concept of this summer is a whole new version created by the director/choreographer. It was performed in Westchester with a NY cast and was very successful.
Open Auditions will be held Monday April 26th, and callbacks will be Tues April 27th at 8pm at the Cultural Arts Playhouse 625 Old Country Rd, Plainview, NY

Director/Choreographer: Eddie Carignan
Assistant/Stage Manager: Danielle Coutieri
Producer: Bruce Grossman

The show will be opening on Saturday June 19, 2010 and will run every Saturday at Midnight until August 28, 2010 with a possibility of some added Friday shows.

Character Break-Down
+Brad Majors: male, 20s, strong comedic rock baritone, an attractive 1970s nerd type,
+Janet Weiss: female, 20s, rock soprano or high belter, Brad’s fiancé, sorority girl, uptight and controlling, masking her dominatrix desires;
+Frank N’ Furter: male, 20s-30s, glam rock baritone, transvestite alien from the planet Transsexual who idolizes David Bowie
+Riff Raff: male, 20s- 30s, High Rock Tenor, servant to Frank, physically odd, calculating;
+Magenta: female, 20s-30s, High Rock Belter, sexy servant of Frank and sister to Riff Raff
+Eddie/Dr. Scott: male or female, 20s-50s, Rock Belter or Rock Baritone, Eddie is a half male/ half female mistake creation of Frank, Dr. Scott is a disabled professor at Denton High, must be a very comedic actor/actress;
+Columbia: female, 20s-30s, alto or soprano, Frank’s first creation, a brat, think Stefanie Tanner from Full House, must be a proficient tapper;
+Narrator: male, 30s-50s, no singing, mysterious sense of humor, all-knowing energy, is more involved in the show than the movie version
+Glitter Kids (Dancers): 2 male, 2 female, excellent dancers with extremely unique energy, need not sing, but must dance and pantomime very well
+Usherettes: 3 male or female, think the Supremes in drag makeup, distinct personalities, must hold harmonies very well, move well, lead the callbacks and preshow.

NOTE: Production is heavily influenced by glam rock era of the 1970s, seeking singers who can sing that type of music very well and have comedic skills. Director is seeking unique types for this show and some replacements for another upcoming production in NYC in the Fall, please do not feel the need to follow the movie version.
